A bit about Nikki Youngs

As a qualified counsellor with a warm, friendly and open manner, I bring a wealth of experience to my work, both with individuals and families from a variety of different backgrounds.
My own life experience combined with extensive training and professional qualifications allows me to connect with people throughout different life stages in a warm, genuine way.
Whether you find it hard to build secure personal relationships, need help in understanding the full impact of childhood trauma in adult life or have unresolved family issues that make harmonious relationships difficult to maintain or maybe you are struggling with a loss or bereavement; I can provide a safe, confidential space in which we can work together to explore, make sense of and understand your thoughts and feelings.
My experience and background includes the following:
Working with Individuals and young people who have suffered trauma.
Families working through challenging times such as divorce, bereavement, attachment issues, abuse, fostering and adoption.
Time spent working with individuals and families in a hospice coping with loss, bereavement and end of life care.
People affected by sexual, physical or emotional abuse.
With over 25 years combined experience as a social worker working with families, 12 of which specialised in the foster care sector, I’ve seen first-hand how the attachment styles of parents and carers can shape how we view life and most importantly, how we view ourselves.
Through my work as a councillor helping others to deal with loss, childhood and adult trauma, miscarriage, bereavement and life-limiting illnesses, I feel privileged to have helped my clients promote a better understanding of how these issues affect us and how to move forward in ways that feel authentic to them.
I am a Humanistic Integrative counsellor, meaning that I use different counselling approaches as required depending on what feels right for you to explore the areas in your life.
Through a gentle approach, our working relationship will become one where you’ll feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings, and over time build a stronger sense of self-awareness.
I can offer both face-to-face and online sessions as required.

I know that taking the first step in seeking help can feel frightening and perhaps a little daunting, but my hope is that our counselling sessions will provide a safe and calm space for you to talk freely and without fear or judgment.
